Gaviscon Advance Aniseed Flavour Oral Suspension 150ml

Fast Shipping
Gaviscon Advance is the UK's best-known alginate-based oral suspension, made by Reckitt and available in British pharmacies for decades. This is the 150ml aniseed-flavoured version — the classic amber bottle, smooth liquid texture, the formula that generations of British households have kept in the medicine cabinet after dinner. Imported directly from the UK and shipped from our US warehouse.
How the formula works
Gaviscon Advance uses a physical, non-systemic mechanism — meaning it works in the stomach itself rather than being absorbed into the bloodstream. The two active components work together in sequence after you swallow the suspension.
- Sodium alginate (1000mg per 10ml) — a natural polysaccharide extracted from the cell walls of brown seaweed. On contact with stomach contents, it rapidly forms a thick, viscous gel layer that sits on the surface, creating a physical barrier between the stomach and the oesophagus. The mechanism is entirely physical; alginate is not absorbed systemically.
- Potassium hydrogen carbonate (200mg per 10ml) — reacts with stomach acid to generate carbon dioxide, which aerates the alginate gel and helps it float stably on the stomach contents rather than sinking. This buoyancy is what makes the raft effective for up to four hours per dose.
- Calcium carbonate — included as a co-ingredient that contributes to raft rigidity and cohesion, helping the gel layer maintain its structure.
What you can expect
A smooth, syrupy liquid with a mild aniseed flavour (derived from fennel) that is easy to swallow and coats the throat on the way down. The suspension works quickly after ingestion — raft formation begins within minutes of contact with stomach contents.
- 1000mg sodium alginate + 200mg potassium hydrogen carbonate per 10ml dose
- Sugar-free, gluten-free, vegan-friendly
- Does not enter the bloodstream — physical action only
- Up to 4 hours of comfort per dose per UK brand documentation
- Suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding — consult your doctor or pharmacist first
- Suitable for adults and children 12 years and over
The aniseed variant is the milder, more classic option for those who find mint too sharp. Popular with customers who remember the original UK formula and can't find the Advance strength in US stores — American Gaviscon uses a different formulation entirely (aluminum hydroxide base, no alginate).
Why we stock it
The UK Gaviscon Advance formula with sodium alginate is not available in US pharmacies — American Gaviscon is a different product with a different mechanism. Customers who know the British version from living or travelling in the UK, or from recommendations by UK-trained doctors and pharmacists, specifically seek out the alginate formula. We import it directly from authorized UK distribution and hold it on our US warehouse shelf, ready to ship in 24 hours.
